History of the Epsilon Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Lambda Gamma
During the Fall of 2007, the women of Oklahoma State University gathered together at the Classroom Building to discuss a potential Latina/Hispanic sorority on campus. Several sororities were considered, but Sigma Lambda Gamma Sorority prevailed. Their goal was to form an organization where Latinas/Hispanics could grow and receive support.
After two years of organization, preparation and petitions, the interest group was officially formed. Then, on November 20, 2009, the seven founders were initiated into Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. These women were Brittnee Cooks, Luz Maria Hernandez, Dedra Ibañez, Brittany Jaramillo, Tamara McCoy, Mayra Melendez, and Michelle Vazquez.
The founding line continued their efforts to make the colony the sorority they always imagined and soon initiated the Alpha Line during the Spring of 2010. These efforts continued to show and sisters continued to graduate while others continued to be initiated.
Finally, after years of hard work and determination, the Oklahoma State University Colony was granted chapter status on June 13, 2012 at 8:47 p.m. The colony was chartered as the Epsilon Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc., making them the 120th entity to be granted chapter status.
